Museo del Sidecar

When it comes to engines, one is used to considering two and four wheels, often forgetting that a piece of history also belongs to the three wheels of sidecars, curious, asymmetrical vehicles, whose history can be divided into three eras, based on the material used for the construction of the wheelchair; wood, metal and plastic.

The International Sidecar Museum is certainly one of a kind. In thirty years Costantino Frontalini has collected over one hundred examples of this unique means of transport, creating a collection that, given the quality and quantity of the vehicles on display, is interesting not only for the enthusiast of the sector.

The museum is organized in such a way as to illustrate the complete history of the sidecar, retracing over a century of technical evolution of this vehicle: the various periods, prehistory, twenty years, pioneers, post-war and future are therefore distinct. The collection is divided into five sections: tourism, commercial, competition, military and bonsai.

The tourism section includes the most representative models from the end of the last century to the present day, as well as some scooters and bicycles with sidecars and some motorcycles that belonged to famous people or used in famous films.

The buggies built for utility purposes for the transport of goods and for the most diverse specific uses are exhibited in the commercial section, followed by the competition section, in which space is given to the particular use of sidecars in racing and to a particular type of articulated wheelchair. .

In the military section it is possible to admire the vehicles used during the First and Second World War. Here, special dioramas place the sidecars within real war scenes.

Finally, the bonsai section collects all the miniatures related to sidecars. The "sidecars from Hollywood to Cinecittà" section, which Giacomo, Costantino's son, personally takes care of, and the one including the very latest models, built by the enthusiast from the Marches, are also very well-finished. All sections are enriched with original documents, videos and photos. Among the curiosities, the longest sidecar in the world: Bohmerland 1932, the widest one: Indian Chief 1935, the smallest: Excelsior Corgi 1946 and the largest: BMW R75 with three trailers.
